Non Slip Bath

People slip in the bath especially when getting in or out. Some of them fall. Some people even hit their heads and drown.

Most of us will probably never have a serious problem, but it happens. Normal precautions, taking due diligence, basically being careful is often enough but why take the risk? It makes sense to have a non slip bath.

It’s not just the elderly who slip and hurt themselves in bath tubs. It can happen to anyone. And it’s not just standard bathtubs, but whirlpool tubs, hot tubs and more we need to be concerned with.
Most modern tubs are made of fiberglass or acrylic, although there are other options like enamel over steel and cast iron. Many tubs have non slip surfaces built in, and these are certainly good, although people often add additional slip proofing as well. There are several options.

One old standby we mention just briefly is a bathmat. They are widely available and often are textured for safety and have skid resistant suction cups to anchor them to the tub. They come in different sizes, styles, and colors and are very convenient as they can be easily removed for cleaning. Some disadvantages include that they can encourage slime, mold, and bacterial growth. They can also be slippery if not firmly attached, for example if any suction cups have not been pressed on.

There are also a number of non slip treatments for bathtubs and showers. One example is TubSafe® Anti-Slip Bathtub and Shower Treatment. It’s been used for almost 30 years by the hospitality and healthcare industries, is inexpensive at about $15, lasts approximately 3 years, and can be applied in about 6 minutes. It also coats the entire bottom of the bathtub, and can be used on many tubs including marble, porcelain, enamel and tile.

Appliqués are another way to make your bath non slip. Stars, fish, animals, letters, numbers, hearts, and feet are only some of the examples of types of appliqués available. See the selection of appliqués at Amazon.

There are lots of ways to have a non slip tub, but make sure you are careful as well. Common sense or diligence can go a long way in preventing injuries!
