Non Slip Shoes

People slip and fall all the time, and sometimes are very seriously hurt. Footwear can help avoid falls or be part of the problem.

I have one pair of shoes, actually they are closed toe sandals, very shoe like in look, that are quite worn on the bottom. I love them but all the tread is gone and if the floor is at all wet, they are extremely slippery. They are the opposite of non slip shoes! Quite hazardous in fact, and I’m going to replace them within the week.

Now my daughter slipped and fell yesterday which is what got me thinking on this topic. She is 6, and falling when your six years old is usually not too big a deal. She plays hard and certainly falls several times a week.

If I fall it’s a bigger deal potentially. I’m 49 years old (it’s my birthday today!). Now if my father falls, at nearly 90 years of age, it’s a far bigger deal. Older people are more fragile, often their bones are physically weaker, and they recuperate much more slowly if at all.

We should take normal precautions to help prevent falling; basically being careful and aware. We can also install non slip stair treads, non slip rugs, shower and bathtub mats, have good lighting for staircases and sturdy handrails, install non slip tape of other surfaces on boats, docks, and other slippery surfaces, etc.

Sometimes however we’ll be more careful than other times and we will sometimes step somewhere where it may be slippery, unbeknownst to us. Wearing non slip shoes is one precaution we can wear meaning bring with us almost everywhere we go.

Non slip shoes are particularly important in certain environments and for certain people. I’ve already mentioned older people. There are work environments that are particularly hazardous, including some industrial environments, restaurants including the inside the kitchen and outside, boats, and far far more. You should know if you work in an environment like this, and have appropriate shoes or non slip boots

A common misconception among many is that these shoes are not fashionable or that there is a limited selection, which is very far from the truth. For example, looking at just Women's Footwear, ones described as non slip or slip resistant or similar, you’ll find hundreds of varieties including ones described as athletic, casual, clogs, work boots, and dress shoes. Similarly for men you’ll find athletic, steel toe, casual, clogs, work boots, safety, and dress shoes.

There are lots of manufacturers who specialize in or make several models of non slip shoes. These include Skechers slip resistant shoes, a very wide variety, WORX by Red Wing Shoes, and Shoes for Crews.

You can also attach Non-Slip Grip Pads to your existing footwear, for example high heeled shoes, sandals, or boots. Another option is to visit a cobbler. They can often attach non slip rubber soles to your footwear, especially of it's worn.
