Just like it’s possible to slip in the bathtub, it’s very possible to slip in shower. Of course showers tend to be wet, perhaps soapy or shampooey, and certainly slippery.
And unlike bathtubs, you stand, a vulnerable position, when you use the shower. Non slip shower mats are important to help prevent falling and injury. We have one in each shower.
I haven’t been able to find any statistics on people falling in the shower and getting hurt, but I know more people slip in the tub, hit their heads, and drown than are killed by sharks every year. Admittedly, this is a small number, but if you or a loved one are one of them the statistics don’t matter. I wouldn’t be surprised if more people fall in the shower, although drowning is probably far less common for obvious reasons. Still, a fall can be very serious.
Often we think of elderly people slipping and falling in the bathtub or shower, and although unfortunately this is common and falls tend to be far more serious for the elderly, it can happen to anyone. I’m writing this today as I almost slipped and fell this morning. In fact I slipped but fortunately didn’t fall, but I did scare myself silly! There was a shower mat, but the little suction cups on the bottom were not attached to the floor of the shower. I’m guessing it got moved when someone was cleaning or maybe the kids were playing?
Many showers come with a textured or similar non slip surface, but adding a non slip shower mat can make sense. The bottom of the shower can get dirty, slimy, slippery, etc. between cleanings or if some residual soap/shampoo is left on. If you have a mat you hang up after use this will most likely be less probable.
Of course if your shower is in your tub, you can use a bathmat, but if it’s a dedicated shower you’ll need a smaller mat that fits. Alternatively you may attach non slip tape pieces specifically designed for showers and tubs. My niece and nephew have some neat ones shaped like dolphins, fish, and sea turtles.

or look in any department or home goods store for non slip shower mats. If
decor is an issue, you'll find multiple shapes like square or circular,
colors, and patterns available.
I suggest you hang them up between showers, make sure they are clean, and ensure they are firmly attached to the shower bottom when you put them down. And if they get slippery and slimy and you don't want to or can't clean them, they are cheap enough so you can buy a new one.
